On Saturday, at the annual Suffolk Coaches Invitational, Duncan Kipkoech turned in one of the finest afternoons in the recent history of SBS Track with an outstanding 1600/3200 tandem on the Commack High School track.

The senior smashed his 10:32.95 personal record in the 3200, set on April 6, with a 9:47.52 to handily win the gold over Commack’s Harris Cantley (9:55.13). He is the first Bear to run a sub-10 mark in the 3200 in at least the last two decades.

He followed that up with a 4:31.0 mark in the 1600 to take 5th overall, edging out Ward Melville’s Andrew Senf (4:31.2) at the line. The time was also a PR for Kipkoech, who bested his 4:35.07 time at last week’s Walker Relays.
