Last spring, our sail team earned a third straight New York State Championship and a second consecutive berth in the National Championship, where they took sixth against the best mariners in the nation. Over the weekend, they began the pursuit of this year’s championship dreams with a resounding victory in the NYISA-SE LYC Spring Ice Breaker, hosted by Mamaroneck.

In Division A, Gavin Hudson joined forces with Elaine Tian (races 1-6) and Mairead Reitzel (7-10) to win three of the 10 races and top the division with 28 points. In Division B, Mauro Gonzalez combined with Reitzel (races 1-6) and Joshua Henson (7-10) to earn four wins and lead the division with 24 points.

The combined 52 points easily outdistanced Mamaroneck (83), Rye (91), Mamaroneck 2 (134), and Rye 2 (190).

The Bears are back on the water on April 6 in the Fleet Race Girls’ Qualifier at the American Yacht Club in Rye, NY.
