On this day 44 years ago, Kevin Lockerbie ’77 won the 1,000 to help the University of North Carolina sweep a trio of in-state rivals at the New Tin Can in Chapel Hill. Lockerbie helped the Tar Heels accumulate 74.5 points to defeat Western Carolina (30.5), Wake Forest (30), and Duke (22) and improve to 9-1 on the season.

That same season, Lockerbie helped set the indoor school record in the mile relay in a blazing time of 3:13.9.
