On this day 100 years ago, the basketball team turned back Huntington, 22-16.
George Steenland led The Brook with 8 points while James Durham added 6 points and John Gilman 5.
In the second basketball season in school history, Clyde Mellinger’s squad finished 8-8 before securing their first winning season the following year at 9-6.
While the Huntington team as a whole played the best basketball they have shown for weeks, their playing was not quite as good as that of the visiting team, the latter having a shade the better in all phases of the game. The score indicates the relative merits of the two aggregations, the Stony Brook lads having only a slight edge on the Huntington players.~ The Long Islander
