Yesterday evening, the girls’ basketball team played the Bears’ first athletic contest of 2024 and got the Blue & White off on the right foot in a 45-30 non-league victory at Amityville.
The Bears continued their pattern of bursting out of the gates with an 11-0 first quarter that the Warriors never recovered from. A 15-7 second frame gave the Bears a 26-7 lead at the half, and an 11-9 third quarter extended the margin to a comfortable 21 points heading into the final eight minutes.
Meaghan Doherty led all scorers with 17 points, including 5 three-pointers that upped her Long Island-leading total to 38. She added 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Abby Smith nearly equaled her season-high with 11 points to go along with 5 assists and 2 rebounds. Cassandra Rohan narrowly missed out on another double-double with 9 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. Quinn Davey scored a season-high 8 points with 2 rebounds and an assist.
The Bears are back on the court next Wednesday in a home non-league match-up with East Hampton.
