Yesterday afternoon, the boys’ basketball team turned back Solomon Schechter for the second time this season in an 89-37 win. The victory improved their overall record to 6-2 and their league record to 6-1, representing the best start they’ve engineered in six years of PSAA play.

The Bears got out to a quick start, building a 19-1 lead behind 10 points from Orlando Morris. The Bear lead grew to 27-5 by the end of the quarter, fueled by 13 points from Morris and eight from Jack Bunt, who canned a pair of 3-pointers.

In the second, coach Ron White told the boys not to dribble and emphasized passing and moving without the ball. The limitation did little to slow their pace as the Blue & White scored 24 points in the frame, led by Jeremiah Coty’s six. Bunt hit his third 3-pointer at the buzzer to give The Brook a 51-13 halftime edge.

In the third quarter, Lawrence Tom saw his first action of the season and took over the frame. Tom, who serves as the team manager but practices every day, scored seven points in the period as the Bear lead grew to 71-23.

In the fourth, Tom connected on his second 3-pointer while Alvin Zhou and Coty also splashed trifectas as the Bears cruised to victory.

Bunt led the Bears with 19 points, one of five Bears in double-figures. Jeremiah Coty (15), Morris (14), Tom (11), Nate Small (10), Zhou (8), Paul Coty (8), and Josh Duncan (2) also scored for The Brook.

The Blue & White is back in action Friday evening against St. Dominic’s on the opening night of the annual Mariner Holiday Classic hosted by Southampton HS.
