On Wednesday afternoon, the boys’ swimming team improved to 4-0 on the season with victories over three different schools in a quad meet hosted by our old Ivy League rival, Horace Mann.
The Bears beat the hosts 84.5-70.5, North Rockland HS (NY) 104-52, and St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ) 110-45 for a clean sweep in the Bronx.
The Bears won two individual events, thanks to Gavin Paton (50 free/23.04) and Sam Specht (500 free/5:25.20), and two of the three relays as Andrew Burke, Sebastian Guadalupe-Pena, James Wigington, and Paton combined to win the 200 free relay in 1:36.24, and Paton, Wigington, Hugo MacDonald, and Specht joined forces to take the 400 free relay in 3:38.70.
The Bears also showed their depth by taking the runner-up position in seven events, along with a pair of third-place finishes to rack up vital points.
The Bears return to the water on January 17 in a match-up at Fieldston.
