On Friday night in a packed Swanson Gymnasium, the boys’ basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season and in PSAA play with a 102-21 victory over Kew-Forest.
The Bears blitzed the Jaguars in a 37-3 opening frame behind 14 points from Dylan Kopp and 13 from Orlando Morris. The lead swelled to 65-12 at the half, spurred by eight points from Alan Zhou that included a pair of 3-pointers.
The Bears outscored Kew 19-8 in a third quarter that was punctuated by Kopp’s two-handed slam. Heading into the fourth quarter with an 84-19 lead, the only question that remained was whether or not the Bears would top the century mark for the first time since a 102-31 home victory over Shelter Island on January 18, 2003. That question was answered with two minutes left when Josh Duncan grabbed a rebound and banked in a leaner to give The Brook a 100-20 edge on the way to the victory.
Kopp and Morris led all scorers with 19 points each. Jeremiah Coty (18), Duncan (13), Zhou (13), Paul Coty (8), Jack Bunt (7), and Randolph Logan (6) rounded out the Bear attack. Through the first three games, the Bears are averaging 96.7 points per game with an average margin of victory of 68.3, despite the starters sitting for large stretches of each contest.
The Brook is back in action on Tuesday afternoon in a key PSAA match-up at Lawrence Woodmere.
