On Friday evening, the swim team opened their season with a pair of wins at Trinity School, our old Ivy League foes. The girls cruised past the Tigers 102-67, while the boys edged their hosts 88-82.
The girls had eight individual event winners as Amelia Griffin (200 free/2:07.94 & 100 backstroke/1:05.77), Kaitlyn Tse (200 IM/2:21.37 & 100 breaststroke/1:12.55), Naomi Crane (50 free/26.15 & 100 free/57.16), Genevieve Rochlin (100 butterfly/1:06.59), and Victoria Mackay (500 free/5:44.20) out-touched the Tigers. Griffin, Brooke Shteierman, Tse, and Crane joined forces to win the 200 free relay in 1:56.17.
On the boys’ side, Sam Specht (200 IM/2:17.07), Andrew Burke (100 butterfly/1:04.51), and Christian Duryea-Kelly (500 free/5:22.87) were the Bears’ only individual event winners, and the Blue & White lost all three relays, but they showed their depth by outscoring Trinity in five events based on the points awarded for 2nd through 5th place. The Bears dominated two events in particular as they nabbed 13 of the 16 points in the 500 free behind Duryea-Kelly (1st), Specht (2nd/5:49.93), and Emirhan Ozsoy (3rd/6:09.75), and 11 of the 16 points in the 200 IM thanks to Specht (1st), Ozsoy (3rd/2:37.03), and Chris Liu (4th/2:38.66).
The boys are back in the water on December 13 in a match-up vs. Hackley at Horace Mann. The girls race again on December 18 at Horace Mann.
