Over the weekend of November 4-5, the sailing team returned to the Atlantic Coast Championships for the third straight year and came home from Kings Point with their highest finish ever in the East Coast’s premier fall race.

In 2021, the Bears broke in as newcomers to the race with an impressive 4th place showing in a field of 18 schools. In 2022, they sailed to a 6th place finish out of 18. This year, they plied the waters of Long Island Sound with 20 of the finest programs on the East Coast and finished in medal position.

The wind was uncooperative for large portions of the weekend, allowing only six races to go off across two divisions. Gavin Hudson and Mairead Reitzel took 5th place in Division A with finishes of 4th, 11th, and 7th in their three races. Mauro Gonzalez and Joshua Henson were 4th in Division B by taking 6th, 7th, and 1st in their races.

Their 36 cumulative points left The Brook behind only Christchurch (25) and St. George’s (35) and ahead of perennially powerful Archbishop Spalding (46), Hampton Roads (55), Tabor (57), and Ransom Everglades (61).

The Bears now have their sights set on a winter of strength training before pursuing a third straight berth in the National Championship this spring.
