Those who showed up a few minutes late to yesterday’s boys’ soccer PSAA quarterfinal match may have been confused to see a healthy Bear lead already on the scoreboard. But there was no illusion; the Blue & White pounced on West Division #4 seed Kew-Forest from the opening whistle, built an insurmountable advantage in a blink, and so thoroughly overwhelmed the Jaguars that they did not come out to play the second half.
John Fay was the catalyst early for The Brook, assisting on the first three goals in a span of 2:16, feeding his brother James at 38:01, Aiden Ruiz at 37:24, and Aidan Riley at 35:45 as the Bears built a 3-0 edge in the first 4:15. Three goals quickly followed from Jayson Amin, Luka Philip-Ikpo, and AJ Mortimer as the Bears extended the margin to 6-0 in less than 10 minutes. Philip-Ikpo netted another one at 29:16, Daniel He scored a pair in just over two minutes, and Eddie Kim tucked away a score of his own as the Blue & White lead mushroomed to 10-0 by halftime.
The Bears’ double-digit lead at the break was enough to raise the white flag from Kew-Forest, who elected to forego the final 40 minutes of the match.
The Bears move on to the PSAA semifinals for a sixth straight year. They host Heschel this evening at 6:00pm on Fitch Field with a chance to return to the PSAA Championship for a fourth consecutive season.
