Yesterday afternoon, the girls’ tennis team capped a sixth consecutive undefeated league season with a 3-2 victory over Portledge, their 33rd straight league win. The victory also helped the Bears claim Portledge Day in Locust Valley for the second straight year, 4-2-1, along with wins for boys’ and girls’ cross country and girls’ volleyball.
Rania Lajmi won her no. 3 singles match (6-3, 6-2) and the doubles tandems of Ali Cristobal and Sarah Arrieta (6-1, 6-0) and Ava Birgeles and Brianna Shinin (6-1, 6-0) were nearly perfect to close out the victory.
The Bears now move on to the PSAA Tournament where they once again hold the #1 seed. They will play a yet-to-be-determined opponent on Tuesday afternoon on the Hollis Tennis Courts as they begin pursuit of a 4th straight postseason title and a fifth in six years.
