On Friday afternoon, the girls’ volleyball team swept Lawrence Woodmere Academy, 3-0, to win their fifth straight match and improve to 10-2 in league play.

The Bears surged out to a 24-1 lead in the first set, which included three straight Cassandra Rohan aces, before Myla Lombardo closed the frame with a kill for a 25-3 opening win.

The Tigers kept the score closer in the second frame, even holding a slight 2-4 lead at one point, but the Bears proved to be too much. Lombardo and Rohan registered multiple kills, Adelaide Tietjen dunked a ball over the net, and Ella Middlekauff notched an ace as the Blue & White prevailed, 25-12.

In the third set, Rohan’s serve staked The Brook to an 11-1 lead and the Bears cruised from there. Sandy Tao notched an ace to push the lead to 13-2, Middlekauff scored three aces in four points for a 23-4 edge, and Tietjen added another kill as the Bears closed the sweep, 25-5.

Rohan (12 kills/ 12 aces), Middlekauff (5 kills/ 6 aces), Erin He (1 kill/ 9 aces), Lombardo (6 kills/ 1 ace), Tietjen (2 kills/ 1 block), and Tao (1 ace) provided a balanced attack for The Brook.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday in a league match-up at Martin Luther.
