XC Teams Continue League Domination

On Wednesday afternoon, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each won their third PSAA meet of the season, surging to dominant victories on the S.T. Hsaio home course.

The victory came less than a week after their similarly lopsided win on the home course, but the Bears got another chance to race on familiar hills and dales at the last minute when Knox was unable to host the event.

The girls’ squad continued to look unbeatable. Sophia Dabbraccio returned to the lineup after missing the last race and powered to a 1st place finish in 17:46. She was pushed by Evelyn Apazidis, who took the runner-up spot in 18:22. Emma Cohen (3rd/19:26) and Autumn Nichols (4th/20:04) allowed the Bears to take the top four places, and Ali Puopolo (8th/21:51) rounded out the scoring. The Bears racked up 17 points to outpace Portledge (43), Kew-Forest (84), and Solomon Schechter (90).

On the boys’ side, Duncan Kipkoech cruised to 1st place in 14:00. John Duggal was runner-up in 15:23. David Guo (6th/16:49.5), Clinton Kilroy (7th/16:49.8), and Joshua Kim (9th/17:02) also scored for the Bears who placed their top five runners in the first nine slots. Their 16 team points gave them a substantial cushion over Solomon Schechter (49) and Portledge (73).

The Bears are back on the course this Saturday in the Suffolk Officials Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park.
