For Owen Sobel ’20, his first college goal was a long time coming.
COVID-19 and injuries interrupted parts of his collegiate career, but he stayed the course and has carved out a key role on the 25th ranked Franklin & Marshall men’s soccer team.
On Monday evening, he earned his first start of the season at Alvernia University and made the most of his opportunity, netting the eventual game-winner in the 11th minute. Sobel’s teammate found him wide open 10 yards out on a pass from the end line, and the former Bear fired it into the top right corner for the 1-0 lead. The score set the tone for the Diplomats in a 4-0 win that improved their overall record to 8-1-2.
Sobel and the Diplomats are back in action on Saturday in a key Centennial Conference match-up vs. #16 Muhlenberg College.
