On Sunday morning, the sun broke through the clouds for the first time in a week, allowing the NYISA-SE Fall Team Race Championship to go off in Port Jefferson Harbor after a 24-hour delay.
Five to eight-knot northerly winds allowed for 10 races in the fall’s district team racing championship. Team race scoring is similar to cross country scoring in that the finishing position of each team’s three boats is tallied together, with the low score winning the race.
The Bears swept their three races on the day, winning the first and third runs in 1-3-5 position and the second in 1-2-4 position. Gavin Hudson and Dora Qian took first place in each of their three races. Mauro Gonzalez and Joshua Henson had a 2nd place finish and a pair of 3rds, while Mairead Reitzel and Mia Jones had a 4th place finish and a pair of 5ths.
The 3-0 finish gave the Bears top billing over Rye (2-1), Mamaroneck (1-2), and St. John the Baptist (0-3).
The Bears are back on the water this weekend in the NYISA-SE Fleet Race Championship.
