On Wednesday afternoon, on a beautiful day on Fitch Field, the boys’ soccer team began defense of their four consecutive PSAA regular season championships with a 7-0 win over Knox in their home and league opener.
It was the first match-up between the two squads since a 2019 Senior Night battle that saw the Bears clinch the PSAA East Division title in a 2-1 win. In the interim, the Falcons fielded only a junior varsity team, and showed their rust yesterday against the host’s relentless attack.
The Blue & White dominated time of possession in the early moments of the game and had sereval chances narrowly go awry, including a Jayson Amin cross that James Fay headed off the crossbar. But the Bears finally broke through at the 24:19 mark when James Fay fed his brother John with a bouncing ball over the defense that was volleyed home for what proved to be the winning goal.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead into the half but buried five more scores in the final 40 minutes to provide the lopsided margin. John Bui led all scorers with a hat trick. James Fay added a goal to go along with 3 assists. John Fay, Aiden Ruiz, and Eddie Kim also notched scores. Isaiah Pam (2) and Luka Philip-Ikpo added assists.
The Bears are back on the pitch this Saturday in a non-league match-up at Smithtown East.
