On Monday afternoon, the girls’ tennis team began defense of their five straight regular season PSAA crowns and three consecutive PSAA Tournament Championships with a 4-1 victory over rival Portledge that also represented their 28th consecutive regular season league win.

An afternoon thunderstorm swept in unexpectedly, so the match was moved indoors to the Long Island Health & Racquet facility in Setauket.

Isabel Guo battled back at no. 2 singles with a 0-6, 7-5, 10-5 victory, with the final set being played as a super tiebreak to 10. Ali Cristobal made quick work of her no. 3 singles opponent, 6-0, 6-2.

At doubles, Alanna Wu and Lyla Petroske (7-6, 6-3) took down the no. 1 Panther tandem, while Rania Lajmi and Ava Birgeles (6-0, 6-4) finished off the victory at no. 2 doubles.

The Bears return to the court for a non-league match-up vs. Middle Country on Tuesday.
