On this day 29 years ago, Brett Palmer was honored as Newsday‘s Honor Roll Student of the Week. Here is the write-up.

Brett Palmer – Stony Brook Senior Wrestler

Brett Palmer’s rank of 20 in a class of 60 students at The Stony Brook School shouldn’t fool anybody. Stony Brook is a school noted for its excellence in education and lays claim to having half of its seniors qualify for the school’s Honor Roll. Palmer’s numbers of an 87.8 average and an 1100 SAT score have him looking to go to Boston College or Davidson.

This year on the mats, the 138-pound Palmer is undefeated in five matches, and has three pins to his credit. He also garnered All-Island Football Conference honors as a defensive end for the football team.

Athletics and schoolwork are not the only things Palmer goes at with a passion. His father, an airline pilot, reported that Palmer visited the toppled Berlin Wall over the Thanksgiving break for the sole purpose of taking home tiny bits of history and mailing them with his Christmas cards.
