Spooner defends during the 1968-69 season

On this day 49 years ago, the boys’ basketball team clipped Eastern Military Academy, 56-53.

From Newsday:

Stony Brook led all the way in its non-league game, but EMA rallied in the last period and led, 51-50, with three minutes left. Mark Bender hit for Stony Brook to make it 52-51, but Drake Womack, who scored 16 points, scored three clutch points for Stony Brook in the last seconds.

Harold Spooner added 17 points for the Brook.
