On this day 39 years ago, Andy Whitney finished 3rd in the two mile at the prestigious Golden West Invitational in Sacramento, CA.

The senior blazed to a time of 9:05.9 to cap an incredible career that included state championships in cross country and the two mile, Suffolk crowns in cross country (2), the mile, and two mile, and a Penn Relays title in the two mile.

Whitney still owns the school record in the mile (4:14.5) and two mile (9:02.9) runs.
