
On this day 21 years ago, the girls’ basketball team topped Miller Place, 47-39, behind a game-high 18 points from Rebecca Fischer.
The Bears led 15-9 after the first quarter and 28-26 at the break, then won a defensive battle of a third quarter, 5-4, to take a three-point lead into the fourth. In the final frame, they used a 13-4 run to seize the victory, fueled by three free throws apiece from Sara Kiernan and Brie Edwards. Kiernan finished with 13 points.
The Bears would go on to win the program’s first League Championship that year, the first of four consecutive titles.
