After his record-breaking performance in Indiana University’s Hoosier Open on Saturday, Jyles Etienne ’17 was named the Big Ten Conference Field Athlete of the Week this afternoon. He is Indiana’s first field athlete to earn the honor since Dylan Anderson in 2014.
In his first meet for the Hoosiers, the former Bear cleared a personal best height of 7′ 3″ to win the event. Additionally, the height:
- Placed him at #2 in the U.S. (Leader: 7′ 4.25″)
- Is tied for the fourth-highest jump in Indiana indoor history
- Set a new meet record
- Would have been the 5th place jump at last year’s NCAA Championships
Jyles and the Hoosiers are back in action on January 6 in a dual meet vs. Tennessee at home in Bloomington.
