Liotine & SBU Top Albany & Reclaim Golden Apple

This afternoon the Stony Brook University football team outlasted Albany, 28-21, to win the third edition of the Empire Clash and bring the Golden Apple Trophy back to the Brook.

After Stony Brook (7-2) recovered an Albany fumble on the opening kickoff, Don Liotine ’13 put the Seawolves on the board first, scoring his sixth touchdown of the season from six yards out, just two minutes into the game. From there, Stony Brook built a 21-7 lead midway through the second quarter, only to see their offense stall in the second half and Albany knot the score with 1:34 left in the game. The Seawolves showed resilience, scoring on their first overtime possession and forcing a turnover on downs on the ensuing defensive stand to end the game.

Liotine led all rushers with 48 yards on 11 carries including a long run of 32 yards. His touchdown was the 13th of his career.

The Seawolves are back in action next Saturday in a non-conference home tilt vs. Wagner (3-6).
