On Saturday afternoon, Jerome Washington ’12 reeled in what may be the catch of the year in college football. On the opening drive of Rutgers’ match-up at Nebraska, the Scarlet Knights’ starting tight end initially caught an 11-yard pass with his ankles before pinning it between his rear end and hands. The play was initially ruled incomplete before being overturned upon further review.
The catch immediately caught fire across social media with everyone from ESPN and Fox Sports to Bleacher Report and SB Nation sharing the video across their multiple platforms. On Saturday’s 11:00pm SportsCenter, the flagship show of ESPN, the play was given the coveted #1 spot on the program’s Top Plays. It was the first time a current or former Bear was featured on the renowned highlight reel.
