Swimmers Sink Lindy & 4 School Records

Swim 2017 Sargent
Sargent after her 500 free victory on Friday

Yesterday afternoon, the girls’ swim team topped Lindenhurst, 56-38, leaving the Bulldogs and four school records in their wake.

Eighth-grader Madi Sargent, who had a breakout performance in her first meet last Friday, had a hand in all four records. She started her day with a victory in the 200 free in 1:59.82, resetting Amanda Shapiro’s 2:00.08 mark from 2002. She then shattered Colleen Smith’s 500 freestyle record from 1988 (5:29.30) with a time of 5:23.78. Madi then led off the 200 freestyle relay and combined forces with Yesenia McKee, Rachel Crane, and Rebecca Crane to finish in 1:49.01, breaking a 2002 school record, set by Shapiro, Lisa Cook, Caitlin Kevins, and Victoria Fresolone by .02 seconds. The foursome closed the meet by besting their newly minted 400 freestyle relay school record by more than three seconds with a 3:57.00 mark.

Other individual winners for the Bears included Rebecca Crane in the 200 individual medley (2:29.20) and 100 butterfly (1:08.53), Rachel Crane in the 100 freestyle (57.95), and Yesenia McKee in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.37). Coach Marc Danin also praised Katherine Von Savage’s 2nd place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:18.97) and Ruthie Crane’s 3rd place finish in the 500 freestyle (7:16.25) as two of the highlights of the meet.

Just two meets into the season the Bears already have a slew of Suffolk County Championship qualifiers:
