Yesterday afternoon, the boys’ tennis team avenged an early season 1-6 loss to Sachem by topping the Flaming Arrows, 4-3, in the last home regular season match for our seniors.
Wensan Yin (6-4, 6-1) was the only singles player to register a win while the three doubles pairs of Brandon Gicquel and Thomas Lawton (6-3, 6-3), Sam Hou and Harry Ou (3-6, 6-2, 6-4), and Ben Tom and Bryant Kang (7-5, 5-7, 7-5) swept their matches to provide the margin of victory. In the aftermath of the win, while drying off from a water cooler shower from her players, coach Jennifer Crane lauded the effort of Bryant, whom she felt was one of the primary reasons the Bears pulled out the win.
With the win, the Bears improve to 6-4 in League V, good enough for an impressive 3rd place behind only Ward Melville (10-0) and Bayport-Blue Point (7-3) and ahead of Sachem (5-5), Longwood (1-9), and Miller Place (1-9).
The Bears will close the season on Monday with a non-league match-up at Portledge before entering the Suffolk County team and individual playoffs.
