On Monday, Jyles Etienne will attempt to defend his gold medal at the 46th CARIFTA Games held in Curacao. In anticipation of the Caribbean’s premier track and field event, MileSplit New York identified the top six New York athletes to watch at the games. Jyles topped their list.
Six Athletes to Watch at CARIFTA
The annual CARIFTA Games are on us once again, and some of New York’s top athletes are down in Curacao to take on the best of the Caribbean. While many of the athletes from the South are well into the postseason, the New Yorkers are looking to hold their own only four weeks into the outdoor season. New York is well represented with four athletes in the top 10 in the US, and more just on the edge, looking to break in.
#1 Jyles Etienne (Stony Brook) – Representing The Bahamas
The current State Leader made his statement in late March, booking his trip to CARIFTA early. At the trials in the Bahamas, Etienne cleared a Suffolk Record of 7′ 1.75″ in the high jump. He’s the defending Top American at the Penn Relays, and will face some of the international names that got the jump on him last year. Can he get his revenge one year later, by matching his very impressive personal best?
