On Wednesday afternoon, the girls’ track team opened the season with a narrow, 66-65 victory over their cross town rivals.
The Bears did most of their damage in the middle and long distances as they swept the 400, 1500, and 3000 and took 1st in the 800 and 1500 walk. The Royals took the majority of the points in the field events and sprints, taking 1st and 2nd in the shot put, 1st and 3rd in the discus, 1st in the 100, 1st in the 100 hurdles, 1st and 3rd in the triple jump, and 2nd and 3rd in the long jump. Port Jeff also took top honors in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, but did not have a 4×800 relay team, providing the difference for the Brook.
Individual winners for the Bears were Miranda Harrigan (800, 1500 & 3000), Madison Logan (400 & 400 Hurdles), Sofia Shchukina (1500 Walk), and Francine Leung (Long Jump).
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday at the Port Jeff Steeplefest.
