Yesterday afternoon, the boys’ badminton team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory over Commack. The Bears’ five singles players rolled without dropping a single set as David Choi (15-5, 15-11), Haban Weon (15-11, 15-3), Jerry Liu (15-9, 15-6), Tiger Sun (15-4, 15-8), and Kevin Zhang (15-8, 15-12) provided the requisite five team points for the win.

The fourth doubles tandem of Caleb Spreckels and Justin Kim earned a victory for good measure, taking down a Cougar duo, 15-11, 15-6.

This is the first time the Bears have beaten Commack since our program began in 2015. They lost to the Cougars twice in each of their first two seasons by identical scores of 1-8 and 2-7. They were winless in their first season and earned four victories last season. By the end of the week they will have a chance to secure a fifth victory this season in six matches, and in doing so eclipse their win total from the team’s first two seasons of 32 total matches. The rapid improvement of the team is a testament to the outstanding work of coach Jennifer Moreno.

The Bears are currently tied for second place in the 10-team league with Lindenhurst (3-1). They travel to Northport (0-4) this afternoon.
