Banks during Syracuse’s 2000 National Championship win over Princeton

On this day 16 years ago, Liam Banks ’98 notched 4 points to spur the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team to a 14-8 victory over #1-ranked and previously undefeated Princeton.

The 6th-ranked Orangemen held a 6-4 lead early in the second half when they reeled off a game-breaking 5-0 scoring run to put down the Tigers. Banks scored one of the five goals and added two of his three assists in the period.

‘Cuse would go on to lose to Princeton in the 2001 National Championship, 10-9, in a rematch of the 2000 final that saw the Orangemen win 13-7 and Banks earn the championship MVP award with a six-goal performance. Banks would close 2001 as an Honorable Mention All-American and the Orangemen’s fourth-leading scorer with 50 points.
