The boys’ tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season yesterday with a 4-3 win over visiting Miller Place in a League V match-up.
Freshman Brandon Gicquel was the lone victor on the singles side, winning second singles, 6-3, 6-4, for his second straight victory. The three doubles tandems swept their opponents in straight sets to secure the victory for the Bears. John Wei and Harry Ou took first doubles, 6-4, 6-3, Hyun Cho and Wensan Yin won second doubles, 6-4, 6-1, and Ben Tom and Alan Wang won a tight third doubles match with a second set tie-breaker, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
The win was nearly a carbon copy of the Bears’ final match of last season when they topped the Panthers at home, 4-3, behind a clean sweep of the doubles matches. The Bears are currently tied atop the league standings with Ward Melville (2-0) and Bayport-Blue Point (2-0).
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Ward Melville for a battle of unbeaten.
