On this day 13 years ago, Caitlin Banks ’00 notched 4 points to lead the University of Virginia women’s lacrosse team to a 19-6 victory over UMBC.

The former Bear gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead just 46 seconds into the game, firing a laser from the top of the fan. Just 12 seconds later, she assisted teammate Amy Appelt for a 2-0 UVA lead. Banks’ second score extended the Cavalier advantage to 7-1 and she completed the hat trick to push the lead to 15-4.

The Cavaliers would go on to win the National Championship that season in a 10-4 victory over two-time defending champion and previously undefeated Princeton. Banks would notch 3 goals and an assist to cap an All-American senior season.
