This afternoon, the boys’ basketball team made history, topping Millbrook, 45-27, to win the program’s first Regional Championship and punch their first ticket to the New York State Final Four. Here is the recap of the game from the Hudson Valley Sports Report.

Tremendous Seasons for Spackenkill, Millbrook End

One team ran into a barrage of three-pointers, the other into a blitzkrieg of inside power.

That, unfortunately, was how the Spackenkill and Millbrook high school boys’ basketball teams spent the afternoon Saturday at Suffolk County Community College.

Playing back to back regional finals, Spackenkill lost in the Class B contest to Center Moriches, 72-57, while Millbrook dropped the Class C game, 45-27.

Both end spectacular seasons that resulted in Mid-Hudson Athletic League and Section IX titles for the Spartans, and a Section IX title for the Blazers.

Millbrook, coach Bill Kyle said two games ago that, “As Berto goes, we go,” referring to star guard Humberto Cabrera. But Stony Brook’s two big post players inside and a speedy guard on the perimeter foiled Cabrera and all of the Blazers into a season-low 27 points in the loss.
