Roster & Stats

There are no cumulative team statistics available but here were the major players in their last three playoff victories based on the newspaper recaps:

Humberto Cabrera26.3 ppg
Gavin Burns13.0 ppg
Patrick Kyle11.0 ppg
Shane Sinon10.3 ppg
Jake Daly9.5 ppg
Zeke Kopilak6.0 ppg

The offense clearly runs through Cabrera, who scored 12 fourth quarter points, including two 3-pointers, in tonight’s semifinal victory over North Salem. Sinon connected on three fourth quarter 3-pointers of his own and is one of the Blazers’ most consistent threats.

Scout

The Blazers are young with three juniors and two sophomores in their starting lineup. In tonight’s win over North Salem they utilized a 3-2 zone defense for the entirety of the game.

  • The Bears advanced to the Regional Final after upsetting #1 Greenport, 49-35, for their record fifth straight Suffolk Class C Championship. There was no C qualifier from Nassau (Section VIII) so the Bears forego the Long Island Championship and move directly to the Regional Final.
  • This is the Bears’ fifth trip to the Regional Final, including their third consecutive: 2010, 2013, 2015 & 2016. They have never won the Regional Final.
  • Stony Brook has previously won four Regional Championships: Boys’ Soccer (1998), Girls’ Soccer (2008 & 2009), and Girls’ Basketball (2009).
