Bears Clip Tuckers

On Saturday afternoon, the boys’ basketball team earned a hard-fought, 46-41 comeback victory at Mattituck to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Bears took the opening period, 10-8, behind six points from Mac Bohuny, but trailed 19-23 heading into the halftime break. The Bears closed the gap in the third quarter, thanks to six points from Seamus Scanlon, but still trailed 31-32 heading into the fourth.

The lead changed hands twice in the early minutes of the fourth. Mattituck knotted the game at 40-40 with 2:31 remaining, but a bucket from Mac Bohuny with 1:36 remaining gave the Bears the lead for good. John Eshirow followed with three clutch free throws with under 30 seconds to play that extended the Blue and White lead to 45-41 en route to the non-league victory.

Bohuny led all scorers with 12 points while Brandon Providence (11), Eshirow (10), Scanlon (6), James Toney (4), and Jai Narain (3) provided a balanced scoring attack.

This was the Bears’ first match-up with the Tuckers since December 9, 2005 when the Brook won 64-54. With the victory, coach Mike Hickey’s teams improve to 11-7 all-time against Mattituck.
