The ’36 football squad

On this day 80 years ago, the football team topped Babylon, 18-0.

Captain Robert Thoma scrambled for two scores and Tyson Betty added a third touchdown for the Blue and White. Here is the account of the game from Res Gestae 1937:

Unleashing a smashing attack in which every play was perfectly executed, the Blue and White wave defeated Babylon, 18 to 0.
Early in the first period, with the fast charging Stony Brook forward wall opening wide gaps in its opponent's line, the ball was advanced to the two-yard stripe where Bob Thoma went over for the first score.
The second tally came in the same period when Thoma fooled the whole Babylon team and streaked forty-five yards for a touchdown without a hand touching him.
Although Stony Brook pushed Babylon all over the field for the remaining time, only one more score was made. This touchdown, made by Betty, climaxed a long drive down the field.
