Despite being down two starters, the volleyball team spoiled the Homecoming celebration at Shelter Island on Friday night with a resounding 3-0 victory over the Indians.

Led by Sammy Petersen’s 6 aces, 7 kills, and 15 assists, the Bears won 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 to complete their first season sweep against Shelter Island since the spring of 2000 when the Blue and White, led by All-League players Gilly Fell and Reiko Harigaya, turned back the Islanders by scores of 3-0 and 3-1. (Volleyball was a spring sport until the Fall of 2001). That sweep included the Bears’ last victory at Shelter Island before last Friday, a 3-0 victory on April 12, 2000.

The Bears need just one win with three regular season games remaining in order to earn a playoff berth.
