Armand Featured in Stillpoint Magazine

In the fall 2016 edition of Stillpoint, the magazine of Gordon College, Richie Armand ’12 was featured in a section about the impact of playing for the Fighting Scots, alongside four fellow alums. He graduated from the Christian liberal arts school in May. Here is the excerpt on Armand.

Richard Armand played guard on the Gordon Men's Basketball team and helped lead his team to victory at the 2014 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship.
This summer, recruited by coach Tod Murphy, Richard worked as a counselor for Gordon's annual Basketball Camp. He helped oversee 70 kids, running drills, coordinating games and stepping into the role of coach. "It was a lot of fun and I loved working with the kids!" he says.
Reflecting on his four years at Gordon, Richard notes the interconnectedness of basketball and education in his role as a leader. "Being a coach for the basketball camp allowed me to combine teaching and athletics. It's a rewarding experience."
Transitioning into post-college life, Richard will work for the Cintas Corporation, which provides specialized services for businesses. "Being on a sports team meant sharing a goal and working throughout the year to achieve it. There's communication, mutual respect, and putting others before yourself"--all of which helped prepare him for his new role.

Armand will be remembered at Gordon for his selflessness, toughness, and positive attitude. Over the course of his career he sustained two season-ending knee injuries, but overcame them both to work his way back into the lineup and provide a spark for the Scots.

While at Stony Brook he ran the point for the 2012 League Championship basketball squad and was an All-League performer on the tennis team.
