What a difference a few weeks make.

In the Suffolk County boys’ soccer preseason poll, voted on by the Suffolk varsity coaches, the Bears were not even included in the Class C rankings, despite earning a place in the semifinals of last year’s County Championship. In the predicted finish poll the Bears were expected to place eighth out of nine teams in League VII by the Suffolk County coaches, ahead of only Smithtown Christian and behind all four fellow Class C schools. Now the Bears are sitting atop the league with a 5-0 record after defeating four teams picked to finish ahead of them: Greenport, Southold, Port Jeff, and Mattituck.

In the latest Suffolk County Class C rankings, published on Monday, the Brook is slotted at #1 and should not shift after dispatching Mattituck and Smithtown Christian this week.:

1.Stony Brook
2.Pierson/Bridgehampton
3.Southold

The Bears have played near flawless soccer through five games. They have scored the most goals of any League VII opponent (21), have given up the fewest amount of goals (4), and are averaging 4.2 goals per match. With a high-octane offense and a ferocious defense, the Bears are eyeing their first League Title since 2004 and their first County Championship in program history.
