On this day 11 years ago, the boys’ soccer team dispatched Babylon, 4-0.
Russell Storch gave the Bears their first goal of the season after making a great run down the right sideline. Jon Anderson followed with his first of two goals, netting a great pass from Dylan Hegemeyer. Carmel ensured the 2-0 lead held up at the half, by making a spectacular save in the closing minutes. On a breakaway attempt by the Panthers, Carmel came off his line to cut down the angle. Refusing to make the first move, he stayed on his feet and forced the shooter to make a decision. The shooter fired and Carmel deflected the shot, “like a big cat,” in the words of coach David Church, to preserve his second straight shutout.
Anderson opened the second half scoring when he made a long attack down the left sideline, dribbled into the penalty area, and fired a shot that froze the keeper. Tae Hyun Kim finished the barrage, beating the keeper with a far post shot after receiving a pass from David Moore.
After a 0-0 draw in the opener against Comsewogue, it was a welcome offensive outburst for the Blue and White.
