The North Park University men’s soccer team improved to 2-0 yesterday after a 3-1 victory over St. Mary’s University.
The Vikings lit up the scoreboard first with a goal just 26 seconds into the match. Early in the second half, North Park continued to hold a narrow 2-1 lead when Wes Woodley ’11 was called for a foul in the box after colliding with a St. Mary’s player. With the potential equalizer sitting just 18 yards away, Woodley guessed correctly, diving to his right to stymie the penalty kick. North Park finally put the game out of reach with a goal in the 72nd minute to seal the win.
Woodley, who is back in the lineup after a knee injury sidelined him for all of last season, made 2 saves to record his second victory of the year.
Woodley and the Vikings return to the field on Friday Sept. 9 against the University of Chicago.
