Etienne at the Bahamas Junior Nationals

On Saturday, Jyles Etienne finished 5th in the Bahamas Senior National Championships held at the Bahamas National Stadium in Nassau.

The rising senior soared over 6′ 10.75″ (2.10m), matching the height that won him the Bahamian Junior National title just two days earlier. Jyles was the youngest jumper in the field by at least six years and is 15 years younger than the champion. In last year’s event, Jyles cleared 6′ 8″ to take 7th place.

The performance closes a magical year in which Jyles became the best high jumper in New York State during just his second season of formal competition and training. He finished the season ranked 6th in the country among all juniors with a best height of 6′ 11″.

It will be exciting to see what the future holds for this remarkable young man.
