2015-16 was another memorable year for Stony Brook Athletics. Three sports returned to the Brook as the girls’ and boys’ swimming programs reentered the pool and the girls’ lacrosse team brought life back to the Bear Cage. Four school records fell thanks to Jyles Etienne, Rachel Crane, Rebacca Crane, and Miranda Harrigan; Sadhana Sridhar won the Division III Singles Championship as an eighth-grader; and the boys’ basketball team won a fourth straight County Championship and a third Long Island title.
More importantly, each of the student-athletes in our 21 programs grew both in readily apparent ways and in ways that may remain latent for years to come. They grew in their strength, speed, and skill, in camaraderie and teamwork, and in courage and perseverance. For those reasons, the 2015-16 year in athletics was supremely successful as our Bears strove for excellence and, in doing so, honored God in how they used their talents.
