At the 45th Carifta Games held yesterday in Grenada, Jyles Etienne soared over a height of 6′ 9.5″ (2.07m) to win gold in the Under-18 boys’ high jump for Team Bahamas.
The championship was determined by a jump-off at 2.07 meters which Etienne cleared on his second attempt to give the Bahamas its first gold of the games. Etienne’s performance helped the Bahamas take over the 2nd place slot behind defending champion Jamaica heading into the final day of the games.
The Carifta Games is one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious track and field meets and has helped launch championship careers of numerous athletes including Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake. Athletes from 26 different countries competed in over 150 events during the three-day meet which culminates today.
