Etienne Soars Over 6′ 11″ in High Jump

Jyles Etienne continued his relentless assault on the laws of gravity on Saturday at the 10th Annual Roadrunners Track Classic in his native Bahamas.

The junior, who has not jumped since June, shattered his own school record of 6′ 8″ by clearing 6′ 11″ on his second attempt at that height. He nearly cleared 7′ 1″ on his first attempt, but clipped the bar with the back of his calf on the way back to earth.

His awe-inspiring leap not only won the event at the amateur meet, but places him at 4th in the nation in 2016 based on American high school indoor track heights.

Before he returns to the track he will lead the boys’ basketball team into the Long Island Championship tomorrow night vs. East Rockaway.
