On this day 89 years ago, the football team closed the season with a 21-0 victory over Southampton.
Southampton, the reigning Long Island Champions, arrived at the Brook “with no idea of losing” as Res Gestae 1927 put it. Their overconfidence was short-lived. Billy Baker found Herb Williams for the opening score, then Williams intercepted a pass and took it all the way back to put the Blue and White ahead, 14-0. Baker scored the game’s last touchdown by himself to provide the final margin.
With the win, the Brook finished the season 5-1 while outscoring their opponents 120-14. Their lone loss came in a 14-7 loss to Baldwin.
Both Baker and Williams made the All-County team that season along with Tom Brohard.

Most of you know that we had a good football team this year, but again we say that it was the best the school has had. Coach Ruffner surely developed a team. Great credit is due him. At the beginning of the season the outlook was very unfavorable, with only a few of last year's veterans back, but toward the middle of the season we realized that we did have an extraordinarily fine team.
All their success was due to the Coach: the fellows liked the Coach and the Coach like the fellows; so all worked together. Considering this was the first year for Coach, and that he has to get acquainted with the fellows and they with him, they did remarkably well. The scores of the game show it.~ Res Gestae 1927
