On an unseasonably mild day that belied the vibrant foliage at Sunken Meadow State Park, Miranda Harrigan ran a gutsy race that brought her within a second of the individual County Championship.

The sophomore finished 2nd in Suffolk’s Class D in a time of 21:08.33 that left her just 1.21 seconds away from first place. Both are improvements over her performance in last year’s championship when she placed 3rd in 21:19. In an aggregation of all four class races, Harrigan’s time places her at 33rd in the entire county out of 232 runners. Her finish earned her a spot in next weekend’s New York State Championship, her 3rd time qualifying for the event.

The Bears finished 3rd out of four teams.

Other scorers for the Brook were Nicole Gray (13th/26:09), Danielle Sivertsen (15th/26:47), Ilsa Shahzadi (18th/27:02), and Erika Kady (19th/27:12).
