On this day 20 years ago, the football team topped Southampton, 21-14.
The Brook jumped on the Mariners from the very start as Spencer Niebuhr returned the opening kickoff 50 yards before being tackled. Three plays later the Bears found the end zone just 1:50 into the game when Derek Kenney hit Marc Vega on a 19-yard strike. The Bears extended their lead with five minutes left in the third quarter when Kenney capped an 11-play, 52-yard drive with a seven-yard pass to Charlie Hanchett. Just over a minute later, Niebuhr scored what would prove to be the winning touchdown when he returned his fourth interception of the year 35 yards for the score.
