On this day six years ago, the volleyball team electrified the home crowd with a thrilling win over Pierson in a Suffolk County Class C semifinal.
The Bears took the opening set by a narrow 27-25 margin, then grabbed the match’s momentum with a 25-15 set two win. The Whalers bounced back in the third set, dominating it 25-14, then matched the Bears point-for-point in the next set. Buoyed by the raucous crowd in Swanson Gymnasium, the Bears won a tight fourth set, 28-26 to avoid a winner-take-all set.
Natalie Istrati led the way for the second-seeded Bears with five kills and 6 blocks while Linnea Peckham added six kills.
